CABO VERDE is a ten-island archipelago nation in the Atlantic Ocean off the northwest coast of Africa. Upon the arrival of Portuguese mariners in 1456, the islands had not been inhabited by humans. However, over the next three centuries its location made it prominent in the transatlantic slave trade and the intermixing of populations around the world. It was also an exile for political prisoners of Portugal, and Jewish or other religious communities threatened by the Inquisition. The beautiful and varied physical features of Cabo Verdeans today are the result of this unique history.

 

All islands ten islands owe their existence to ongoing volcanic activity. Each island has it’s own unique fauna, topography, demographic origin, dialect, and culture. Below are the ten inhabited islands and a brief description of each:

 

FOGO |  Fire Island.  Fogo is home to one of the world’s largest active volcanoes. Completely covered in black volcanic rock and ash, much of the interior of Fogo looks like lunar terrain.  Locals build their home out of black rock that the volcano generously provides them. The people there are like no other, full of life and passion. They find joy in all things and find their fire home to be glorious.

BRAVA | The Flower Island. Brava is the smallest island of the archipelago, yet this island’ size is no measure of it’s beauty. The island is known for it's rich assortment of flora and fauna. Brava is among the most mountainous islands. This island being the farthest most west island makes it it difficult at certain times of the year.

SANTO ANTÃO  | The Island Jungle. Santo Antão is the greenest of them all. It’s rare volcanic rock formation creates a breathtaking landscape out of this world. Every angle of the island is possess different biospheric element of surprise. From the volcanic ranges, to the expansive green valleys, and across the turquoise coast lines this island is a true Paradise housing the most uninhabited locals within the entire Archipelago. It is typical for locals to never had seen
electronics or other small traces of the outside world before.

SANTIAGO | Home to the capital, Praia. Santiago is one of the largest islands within the island nation. Volcanic ranges surround the villages and cascade throughout the island. This island is the farthest most East island, which makes it an international home to world travelers, and those of business initiative from the African Mainland nations. Santiago is the main location for all government based programs and child welfare institutions such as Picos and Assomada, both of which we are projecting to assist with 2017 funding.

 SAO VICENTE | The island of culture. Sao Vicente is where art, music, festivals, and national patriotism are the most vibrant. The locals pride themselves on their ability to be joyful, creative, and proud.

SAO NICOLAU | The island our pure nature. Sao Nicolau has exotic landscape that vary from coast to coast of the island. Fertile valleys, deserted villages, desert planes, and steep mountainous slopes with amazing formation. Locals like within the valleys and among the range. The desert areas make it very dry and hard to plant vegetation.

SAL |  The island of Salt and Sun shine. “Salt Life” Literally speaking. On the island of Sal lies large amounts of natural sodium chloride “ salt “.  The aged salt mine abandoned many decades ago has many breathtaking views of the crystalized valleys. These majestic bodies of water with similar buoyancy characteristics as the Dead Sea. Locals here are work endlessly within the tourism business to create a means of survival. With that come many burdens.

Maio | The Cozy Paradise. Maio is very remote. Only those born on the island reside there. Its an island of expansive green mazes. Locals live in along the mountainous landscape with very little influence from the outside world.

Boa Vista "Beautiful View" | The Dessert Oasis. Boa Vista is known for it's expansive sand dunes and moonlike volcanic landscapes of the Viana Dessert. It is the closest island to the African continent. As an exotic mecca to animal life such as sea turtles and humpback whales it remains to be a island of divine beauty. Locals live simpler lives than some of the other island. Prior to 1990, local population varied due to the dryness and famine. Local number have increased 8,554 since then.

Santa Luzia | Remote Paradise. This island was uninhabited until the 17th century when it became a breeding ground for livestock. After 1900, the island once agin returned to being uninhabited. The island is now an eco-tourist attraction. It is a sanctuary to some species on the verge of extinction. Earth is on it's 6 Brink of Extinction. The average of 2 species per year are threatened.
